Spinal Bracing & Cervical Collars

Spinal Bracing can be used for various reasons such as supporting injured joints or soft tissue, as a preventative measure or for post-operative support. There are vast amounts of braces available that have numerous different uses and applications. We at Chin & Partners do continuous evaluation of the braces on offer from suppliers around the globe, to try and offer the best possible product options available. Below is a list of some of our commonly used braces, but our product offering is much more extensive. We manufacture custom bracing when needed.

Spinal Orthotics and Bracing

Spinal orthotics are used to achieve various objectives depending on the condition or reason for using the brace. These objectives include limiting range of movement, unloading discs and vertebral bodies or immobilising unstable structures in the spine. By so doing the aim is to relieve pain, assist mobility and allow healing.

Generally braces are referred to by the level in the vertebral column they are used for. These may include a cervical orthosis for the neck, a lumbosacral orthosis for the lower back or a thoraco-lumbar orthosis for the spine reaching from T2 – S1.

For more common conditions such as a sprain, a brace is normally fitted to support soft tissue to allow the tissue time to recover by limiting bending and rotational movements for a prescribed period.

Cervical Spine - Neck

Soft cervical collars

These are made from medium density foam, covered by a layer of soft material and gives uniform support to the neck and may be used day and/or night.

Indications:

  • Pinched nerve
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Rheumatoid and Osteo Arthritis of the cervical spine.

Philadelphia Neck Collar has anterior and posterior rigid plastic reinforcement to immobilise the neck and maintain neutral alignment.

  • Motor Neuron Disease
  • Herniated cervical disc
  • Post- operative
  • Cervical Spondylosis
  • Rheumatoid and Osteo Arthritis of the cervical spine

Miami J Cervical Collar. Although the Miami J is rigid, the front and back panels are padded and easy to wear whilst immobilising the neck and holding it in a neutral position.

  • Motor Neuron Disease
  • Herniated cervical disc

  • Cervical Spondylosis
  • Rheumatoid and Osteo Arthritis of the cervical spine.

Thoracic And Lower Spine (Upper And Lower Back)

Immostrap treats and prevents acute or chronic back ache in the lumbar area.

  • Ankylosing Spondylosis

  • Mechanical Back Ache

Miami Lumbar is a 3 panelled, semi-rigid orthosis custom fitted to a patient. Compression and stability is provided by a pulley mechanism that is controlled by the wearer.

Indications:

  • Post –operative
  • Radiculopathy
  • Lumbar Stenosis
  • Degenerative spinal pathologies

Rigid Thoraco-Lumbar-Sacral Orthoses (TLSO) is used mainly to treat fractures between T6 and L3. Every TLSO is designed to provide extension and immobilisation of the thoracic and lumbar regions following surgical procedure or traumatic injury.

Jewett’s Hyperextension Brace is another example of a rigid brace consisting of an aluminium frame and anatomical positioning pads that is custom fitted to each individual and worn for a period determined by the injury or condition.
