Mobility Orthotics
Wheelchair and Seating Specialists

At Chin and Partners we are qualified to prescribe and fit all mobility equipment ranging from basic home care devices to complex wheelchair seating and positioning. Mobility equipment is often required after a surgical procedure as a temporary or permanent fixture and often serves as a secondary option to a prosthetic fitting. Individuals who require permanent mobility equipment include individuals with spinal cord injuries, neuromuscular disease or congenital conditions such as cerebral palsy, and they often require complex prescriptions. These include custom ordered manual and motorized wheelchairs or complex positioner seats.

In addition to the wheelchairs, these individuals often need assistance in activities of daily life, which calls for the need of assistive devices such as shower benches, hoists, pressure care mattresses and specialised control panels and devices. These devices can make all the difference in an individual’s independence, which we consider most important goal when prescribing the equipment as mentioned.

We understand that it is often difficult for disabled individuals to come to our branch, and we therefore offer home visit assessments within the region of Cape Town, which will include assessment of the environment in order to prescribe the correct home nursing devices.

Feel free to contact us for a full assessment and prescription, or if you are experiencing difficulties with your existing equipment, as we can adjust and modify existing equipment as well.

Wheelchair and Seating, Mobility Orthotics

Wheelchair Seating & Positioning for Different Conditions

A wheelchair may be required for an array of conditions, including stroke, spinal cord injury, neuromuscular disease, cerebral palsy and traumatic brain injury. Each condition has specific needs and requires an holistic approach. It is very important to keep in consideration all the factors which influence the final choice of equipment, such as profession, the environment in which the patient finds himself, at work and at home and the type of activities he or she is interested in pursuing.

Good pressure care and adequate support of the spine and pelvis is essential. Pressure ulcers are often caused by inadequate pressure care and or positioning and can cause severely debilitating complications, rendering the patient inactive, often for long periods at a time. In most instances, the issuing of mobility equipment goes hand in hand with the prescription of other orthotic devices, especially in the case of pediatrics, which makes this a good addition to the company’s repertoire.
